Regulatory Compliance and Certification in the Textile Industry

On 19 March 2026, the TEX-BREIN project organised an online webinar titled “Regulatory Compliance and Certification in the Textile Industry”, bringing together stakeholders from across the textile and apparel ecosystem, including SMEs, research institutions, universities, and designers.

The webinar addressed the increasing impact of the evolving EU regulatory framework on the sector. Particular attention was given to recent initiatives such as the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and restrictions on hazardous substances, which significantly influence product development, manufacturing processes, and market access within the European Union.

The session also highlighted the growing importance of certification systems in responding to market expectations for transparency, sustainability, and product safety. Certifications were presented as essential tools for ensuring credibility and comparability in sustainability communication.

Key topics covered during the webinar included:

  • The current EU regulatory landscape and environmental requirements
  • ISO and internationally recognised standards relevant to textiles and apparel
  • Sustainability standards and certification schemes
  • Core product safety standards and compliance considerations
  • Practical approaches to integrating sustainability into organisational strategies

The webinar was delivered by Dr. Edyta Sulak (Łukasiewicz Research Network – Lodz Institute of Technology), an expert in circular economy, eco-design, and sustainable development.
